Chesterfield’s somewhat stuttering start to the 2026/27 season continued on Saturday lunchtime as they lost 2-1 away at Rotherham United.

Liam Mandeville briefly looked to have stolen a point for the Spireites when he converted an 88th-minute penalty to cancel out Fabio Tavares’ early opener.

However, substitute Paul Mullin would very shortly after capitalise on a couple of pieces of loose play to restore the Rotherham lead in the final minute of normal time.

That means the Blues have now been beaten in three of their first four matches to start the campaign, with a commendable 1-0 victory at Salford City preceded by defeats to Fleetwood Town via the same scoreline in both league and cup.
