Chesterfield secured their first victory of the 2026/27 season on Saturday and did so in style, seeing off League Two title favourites Salford City 1-0 away at the AIG Stadium.

Lee Bonis followed in Josh Koroma’s spilt effort to open the scoring in just the second minute of the match and that ultimately proved enough to settle the contest.

Bonis’ goal brought to an end a run of four consecutive competitive matches (spanning back into last season) without one for Paul Cook’s side and the wider performance represented a commendable response to a pair of 1-0 defeats to Fleetwood Town, first in the Carabao Cup and then during their opening league fixture.
