Chesterfield’s summer defensive restructuring has taken another step with the acquisition of centre-back Alfie Pond from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The 22-year-old arrives at the SMH Group Stadium on a permanent basis and has been handed a contract running through until the summer of 2028.
Heading into the off-season, The Blues’ back line was always likely to be an area of particular focus for Paul Cook and Co. with the loans of Sam Curtis and Sil Swinkels expiring alongside the departures of Vontae Daley-Campbell, Janoi Donacien, Jamie Grimes and Adam Lewis at the end of their deals, resulting in a significant reduction to depth in that area of the pitch.
