In our first podcast, we spoke briefly about how long it's been since Chesterfield last had a season which did not involve either a promotion, a play-offs push, relegation concerns or a manager upheaval midway through the campaign? Spoiler: it's been a while! Life is very rarely dull when following the Spireites.

Following a poor performance or a disappointing result, critical online reactions tend to centre on Paul Cook's style of play. Too much 'tippy-tappy' and not enough balls delivered into the box generally sums it up. There are quite often calls for the team to take the game more to their opponents by adopting a more direct approach. Cook is never going to be a manager that's going to drastically alter his approach to the game. But whether you think his brand of football is dull or not (it's all subjective), there can be no question that Chesterfield are frequently involved in dramatic, rollercoaster, high stakes seasons. There's really not many matches at all in recent times where you are not left biting your fingernails at the outcome and its consequences.
