Chesterfield FC Women were defeated 1-0 by Sutton Coldfield Town Women at the SMH Group Stadium in the FA Women's National League Division One Midlands on Sunday. In a very close contest, an 84th minute goal from Amber Downs proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Spireites manager Pete Jarvis made three changes following last weekend's opening day victory at Barnsley Women's Football Club, as Zoe Millington, Tilly Hallas-Potts and Elin Morin came in for Ellie Flanagan, Sophie Bain and Jess Thompson.

The hosts made a bright start to proceedings and started on the front foot in their search for an early opener. The first opportunity of the game fell to Imogen Fowler after only five minutes, but her effort from inside the box was straight at the Sutton Coldfield goalkeeper. Chesterfield's defence faced their first spell of pressure just before the quarter-hour mark as Millington punched away a delivery from the right flank, before an eventual long-range effort was steered well off target.
