Chesterfield’s third pre-season fixture resulted in a first defeat of their 2026/27 preparations, with Paul Cook’s side going down 3-2 to National League outfit FC Halifax Town.
Quick-fire strikes from Ruel Sotiriou and Josh Koroma briefly looked to have rescued a draw after hosts Halifax had been 2-0 up via Connor Douglas and a trialist, since confirmed to be striker Amari Morgan-Smith.
However, Josh Hmami would just as swiftly be on hand to re-establish his team’s lead in stoppage time and cap a rather frantic finish to proceedings.
In truth that outcome was probably a fairer reflection of a game in which the Spireites had been on the receiving end of many of the clearer opportunities, creating few of their own up until their goals in the 89th and 90th minutes respectively.
