There was a slightly different feel to this competitive fixture between the Spireites and Scunthorpe United as both sides wanted extra minutes for their players as the season begins in earnest a week on Saturday. The format for the game was the usual 45 minutes per half, plus an additional 30 minutes added on at the end of the normal 90.
Paul Cook selected what most believe will be his starting XI for next Saturday at Fleetwood Town. It was the hosts who had the first opportunity after four minutes when former Spireite Tyler Denton’s cross from the left hand side found the head of James Gale but his effort was saved by Ryan Boot. Immediately up the other end, Lee Bonis found himself one on one with the home keeper Louis Jones with a great chance to give the visitors the lead, but the Northern Irishman's strike was well blocked.
