Chesterfield will look to issue a swift response to Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Rotherham United when Gillingham visit the SMH Group Stadium on Tuesday evening.
A Liam Mandeville penalty briefly looked to have salvaged a late draw for the Spireites, only for substitute Paul Mullin to strike in the final minute of normal time and hand the hosts all three points.
That leaves Town with just one win from their first four competitive games of the 2026/27 campaign, with that coming via a 1-0 triumph away at Salford City.
Gillingham, meanwhile, under the management of Gareth Ainsworth as they have been since March 2025, are still searching for their first victory with a pair of 3-0 losses to Luton Town (Carabao Cup) and Walsall followed by 0-0 and 1-1 draws against Fleetwood Town and Northampton Town respectively.
