Young Spireites forward Gunner Elliott will be aiming to turn fellow Derbyshire side Ilkeston Town's fortunes around with an initial one-month loan spell at the Microlise New Manor Ground.

Chesterfield has confirmed that teenage striker Gunner Elliott has joined NPL Premier Division outfit Ilkeston Town on an initial one-month loan deal.

The 18 year-old forward has not featured for Chesterfield's first-team side so far this season in a competitive game but was recently called up for international duty for the Malta U19 side.

Elliott has made two competitive appearances so far in his time with the Spireites, with his last involvement coming in the 5-1 defeat away at Doncaster Rovers in the round of 32 of the Vertu Trophy last season.

The move makes perfect sense as Elliott needs to start playing more senior level football at this stage of his career. At the time of writing, Lee Bonis and Fraser Bryden are Paul Cook's go-to choices for the number nine role, while veteran striker Will Grigg has made two substitute appearances so far this season despite not being a part of Paul Cook's initial plans for the 2026/27 campaign.

The move also makes perfect sense for Ilkeston Town who play in the third tier of the non-league pyramid. The Robins have suffered a dismal start to the season and find themselves sitting inside the relegation zone following 10 defeats from their opening 13 league games. Scoring goals is clearly a huge issue right now for Ilkeston, with only seven league goals scored so far. It will be interesting to see how Elliott gets on in his opening month and whether the loan deal is extended. Here's hoping the youngster hits the ground running and helps turn the Robins' fortunes around.

Elliott is now one of four Spireites players currently out on loan. Luke Butterfield is with National League outfit AFC Fylde for the remainder of the 2026/27 season, Chey Dunkley is at National League side Solihull Moors until December and Alex Whitney is on loan at Hyde United in the NPL Premier Division until the beginning of January.
