Second Half Performance Sees Spireites Make A Statement

That sound you heard on Saturday afternoon was a team clicking. After a close first half which saw opportunities created by both sides to take the lead, Chesterfield stepped their game up several notches to blow York City away and secure a 2-0 win. It was a terrific performance and the Spireites could easily have ended up scoring four or five. What a way to earn your first home victory of the league campaign.
Perhaps the most impressive aspect of Chesterfield's victory was how they managed the latter stages. The hosts took the lead after 57 minutes and, with the score somehow still only 1-0 with 10 minutes remaining, I expected an absolute deluge of York pressure right at the end. We've all seen Chesterfield chuck away a lead at the death on so many occasions. However, that didn't happen against York. Instead, the Spireites continued to batter their opposition into eventual submission right at the very end. It was thrilling to watch. No sitting back. Constant pressing. More of this please!
