Last Friday, Chesterfield came from behind to salvage a 2-2 draw against a Bohemians XI side at Dalymount Park in the club's latest pre-season friendly ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. Here's the main talking points regarding the Spireites following their latest 90 minute work-out.
1: DEFENSIVE ISSUES
As ever with a Paul Cook side, the defence never appears to be settled whether that is through injury or inconsistency. Cook always appears to be exasperated at some of the issues his defenders give him. Last season, Chesterfield conceded the most goals (56) in the top eight positions. The season before the Spireites conceded the joint-most goals (54) in the top eight. It’s clearly a problem which has halted Cook’s side getting in the top three.
