An Abandoned Game And A League Defeat For Spireites Women
31.08.26, 09:09 3 Minute Read
Chesterfield FC Women were in action twice over the last few days as the early stages of their landmark 2026/27 season progresses. Thursday evening saw the Blues take on third-tier Loughborough Lightning away from home in Group R of the FA Women's National League Cup while Pete Jarvis' side also faced Leafield Athletic Ladies on the road yesterday in the FA Women's National League Division One Midlands.
The Spireites were 1-0 down to Loughborough, who compete one tier above the Blues, when the game had to be abandoned after 65 minutes due to torrential rain, thunder and lightning. Lilia Saddington had put the hosts in front after 54 minutes with a scrappy goal following a corner-kick that led to a goalmouth scramble before Saddington poked the ball over the line.
