Chesterfield may well be wondering what might have been after giving up a lead to draw 1-1 with Gillingham at the SMH Group Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Josh Koroma’s first competitive goal for the Spireites came within what was an encouraging first half, only for Ronan Hale to strike in the second 45 and force the hosts to settle for a point.
Paul Cook’s side returned to home soil following very contrasting days out on the road; first, claiming the scalp of pre-season promotion favourites Salford City via a 1-0 win, before falling to a rather uninspiring 2-1 defeat at Rotherham United.
Off the back of that loss it came as something of a surprise to many when Cook opted to maintain an unchanged starting XI heading into this fixture, particularly with the first three-game week of the campaign seemingly offering a natural point at which to shuffle the pack.
