Chesterfield came crashing back down to earth in spectacular fashion on Friday night as they were beaten 4-1 on the road by Newport County in League Two.
Cameron Norman, Tom Davies, Harrison Biggins and Yahya Bamba all struck for the hosts inside the first 45 minutes, before Liam Mandeville registered the most minor of consolations in the second half.
That would have represented a pretty remarkable outcome in itself, but was made all the more noteworthy by the fact the Spireites entered this fixture off the back of a 5-1 victory of their own in which they were already 5-0 up at the break against Crewe Alexandra.
