Chesterfield will hope to use a second consecutive game at the SMH Group Stadium as a catalyst for their 2026/27 campaign when Crewe Alexandra visit on Saturday.

The Spireites played out a 1-1 draw at home against Colchester United on Tuesday evening after another fine Dilan Markanday strike was cancelled out by visiting substitute Ben Perry late on.

It was a game which followed the broad recent pattern of Paul Cook’s side creating enough to get more out of a game than they ultimately did, but however encouraging elements of their play may be, the fact remains they are now three games without a win and have secured only one victory within their last five matches.
