Talking Points: Goals, Goals, Goals

Paul Fisher discusses the talking points following Chesterfield's excellent 5-1 home victory over Crewe Alexandra in League Two.

Before the game I was telling all and sundry that this fixture always sees goals. Including the 5-5 draw from October 2010, there had been 55 goals across 14 matches at an average of 3.92 goals per game. It’s now been boosted to over four goals a game thanks to yesterday’s tally of six. The two sides never fail to provide entertainment apart from one 0-0 draw at Gresty Road back in November 2014 - an awful game.

John Sheridan said after the 5-5 game that if there was ever one side you always felt you could get back into the game against, it was Crewe. They never swerve away from their principles of an easy on the eye passing game and they pick their managers to represent that. Current boss Lee Bell, a product of the Alex academy himself, knows that the club has to produce players themselves and play neat, attractive football that has seen so many of the young academy products go on to play in the Premier League and even for England at international level.
